Thank you for contacting the Dominion EquiHelp™. We look forward to working with you to help your equine stay well fed and healthy since they rely on you for their care and nurturing. We are here to help you do this responsibly as their caregiver.
Assistance is currently limited to individual horse owners in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Locating hay/feed: Please locate a hay supplier who sells horse quality hay. These suppliers should be local to you, when possible. If your current supplier is out, please search for another supplier. You can check with local feed store(s), co-op, friends, family, neighbors or hay auctions. Write down the names, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of any and all possible suppliers. Please also identify a feed store that carries the feed you need for your horses.
Storage and use of hay and feed: We will need to know what your storage capacity is for hay, and how you feed your horses to reduce hay waste. We will also want to know your storage capacity for feed and keeping it free from rodents, bugs, moisture, etc.
Non-transferable: Those receiving assistance cannot sell, give away, or transfer any hay, feed, other supplies or services received through EquiHelp™. If there is hay, feed, other supplies or services that will not be used by the recipient, Dominion Equine Welfare needs to be notified. Recipients will be instructed what to do with any surplus or unused supplies within two (2) weeks.
Payments to hay/feed supplier, service providers: If you are approved for assistance, EquiHelp™ will pay the supplier/provider directly. We will arrange for you to pick up the feed/hay or have it delivered. We do not reimburse applicants for their own purchases, nor will we pay down any existing balances you have with any supplier or service provider.
You should make your veterinarian aware of all feedstuffs you are or plan on giving your equine, to prevent any issues. If you are refeeding a starved equine your veterinarian must be involved and a strict refeeding protocol must be adhered to.
Testimonials: Our ability to raise funds for the EquiHelp ™ is helped by communicating to the public how we assist equine in need. Having written testimonials from recipients is key. We will request you write a testimonial. Unless otherwise given permission, the recipient’s initials and the county in which they reside will be used as part of the testimonial, but no other identifying information will be included.
EquiHelp™ assistance is provided by donations from the public to a registered charity. As stewards of our donors’ contributions and grants, we must ensure our funds go to those who have the greatest need. Dominion Equine Welfare has the SOLE RIGHT TO DETERMINE ELIGIBILITY. Dominion Equine Welfare does its best to expedite assistance requests but requires time to check references and perform a site visit, if needed.
