Donations
100% of your donation goes to the horses and our programs.
As a non-profit, Dominion Equine Welfare works hard to ensure we are good stewards of your donations. 100% of your donation goes to the horses and our programs. Our leadership and board receive no salaries or stipends, no goods or services.
Your donation can be earmarked for a specific use. For example, the care of rescued horses which includes feed, hay, veterinary care, dental care, farrier care, supplements and/or medication. Your donation can be put towards our Equi-Help assistance program, which helps individual horse owners in the Commonwealth of Virginia with hay and feed support when those owners have suffered a short-term hardship and need a helping hand while they get back on their feet.

Some Routine Expenses For Our Horses
Farrier: $65 per visit (visits are every 6 weeks)
Spring and fall vaccinations: Around $300 per horse, which includes a comprehensive physical and eye exam
Boarding: We do have horses boarded when necessary, which can cost $300-$700 per month depending on the area. When we do have to board, the cost of hay is included in the board fee.
Hay, feed and supplements: Costs are typically around $200-$400 per month per horse depending on a horse’s specific dietary needs and the supplementation needed (supplements can be as simple as salt added to the diet or a more costly digestive supplement). Winter horse costs will be higher due to increased hay consumption.
Dental exam/float: A comprehensive dental exam and float can cost $150-$250 depending on the horse and their dental needs. The cost is greater for horses who have dental issues as they require more than one dental exam per year.
